RACE REPORT

The Cloyne 5k attracted over 400 runners for their annual race this evening. We witnessed some high quality racing with plenty of quality performances. The course record was broken in both male and female categories. What a night of racing to have two course records broken. Michael Harty of East Cork AC broke the men's record in a time 14:49, 11 seconds quicker than the previous record. Emma Murphy of St. Finbarr's AC broke the Ladies record in a time of 16:49. The atmosphere was electric with supporters knowing that course records were close. The support certainly helped the runners break course records and personal PBs throughout the field

Runners, joggers and walkers from all over the county participated in this well organised event by Tommy Hartnett, Margaret Twohig and their team. Runners were given a great experience from start to Finish..

The race was very competitive as prizes were up for grabs for all age categories. As a result many battles were fought to hold positions right down the field of placings. For others they were just out to enjoy a well organised and care free 5k.

However, all participants had the same hunger to avail of the after food refreshments. As ever with great community events, all hands were to the pump in the baking a making of sandwiches. This contribution by volunteers is the heart and soul that gives running events a strong foothold in local communities. No matter what level of running ability you have, the after race chat, banter and friendship unites people together with same love for running. "A certain recipe for success".
