Race Report

The Irish Runner 5 Mile hosted by Athletics Ireland provided another great event for participants. This was part of the National Championships that brought some extra spice to the day. Over 900 registered for the event and nearly 300 of those  were taking part in the Champs.

You know when you come to an Athletics Ireland event that you will have a great experience. Dublin clubs who were close to the venue of the Phoenix Park supported the race in large numbers. Competition among clubs was very well contested.

Ian Guidan of Clonliffe Harriers won the men's title comfortably in a time of 23:44. Peter Somba of Dunlyne AC was 2nd and just 2 seconds behind in 3rd was Evan Fitzgerald of Clonmel AC in time of 24:44.
The women's top 3 race was dominated by Raheny Shamrock athletes. Kate was 1st taking the National Title in a time of 28:30 and Zoe Quinn was 3rd. Sli Cualainn AC's Sile O'Byrne split the to Raheny women for 2nd place.

Raheny Shamrock AC had a great day taking gold in both the mens and womens senior team awards. They also picked up medals in the over teams for both men and women.  Brothers Pearse AC also had a good day taking gold in the women's over 35 team. The men were 2nd in the over 35 teams.
