The concept is simple: 5 people enter as a team, each member runs one leg of a 5km circular route passing the baton to their teammate who continues the next 5km in traditional relay fashion.
The final km of the route passes through the ‘Staff Relay Village’, weaving its way around the marquees that have been erected as individual company headquarters for the night. Entrants are given the option of purchasing a table(s) within the tented Staff Relay Village. (All tables are situated within a marquee). These marquees can be branded by the companies that choose to do so & it is here that the parties really takes places throughout the evening.
The proximity of the relay route to the spectators, lends itself to a wonderful camaraderie as participants pass within touching distance of their teammates who are on hand to offer encouragement, tactical advice or sometimes even a gentle ribbing!
A great sense of friendly rivalry is found on the night as CEOs work alongside administrative staff as everyone participates on a level playing ground to be the first team home. Advertising teams take on marketing departments, Legal join forces against financial and internal competitions are almost as hard fought as the 100m finals at the Olympics.
Industry wide competition is also evident as rival companies want to obtain bragging rights for the year. But it’s not all for the serious runner either; many companies enter teams of walkers just happy to join in the fun atmosphere, enjoying a healthy activity before settling in to party the night away with their work colleagues.
