Race Report
After a one year absence, the Cavan Christmas Dash 5k was back. Over 430 registered for this popular 5k event. Over the years much of the funds raised have been for the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland.
The event was highly organised with participants delighted to be able to burn off the excesses of Christmas day. With one of the wettest Christmas days on record we all needed a bit of fresh air. Runners and walkers of all levels of ability took to the streets of Cavan. Most of the particpants had their numbers posted, while the remaining participants collected their numbers in a large open outdorr space in the town sqaure. This lead to an extremely safe event under current conditions.
We had some fine local athletes taking to the start line with local legend and hero Catherina Mckiernan among the mix.
Conor Duffy was the winner of the race in a time of 14:50. In 2nd place was John Whelan with a time of 16:09 and 3rd male was Marcus Sheridan.
The womens race was also won by local girl Catherina Mullen who has been performing well of late. Catherina was 3rd overall in the race with a time of 16:35. Another top performing athlete was Denise Toner of Clones AC taking 2nd spot and Catherina McKiernan in 3rd.
Many families, kids and grand parents enjoyed another great annual 5k event. Well done to all those who made the event happen making everyone feel safe and at the same time having some great fun.
