The Echo Women's Mini Marathon Cork 2022

RACE REPORT

The Echo Women's Mini Marathon hosted by Cork Athletics ran it's 41st year of the event. Everything about today's event was perfect. Over 3,200 women signed up for this year's event. It is estimated that over €1 Million is raised by participants for local and national charities. As ever the atmosphere was incredible with so much fun and a  real sense of delight among participants.

We had summer-like conditions, which further added to the occasion. The joyful mood had participants singing and dancing on Centre Park road. The Echo provided some great pre race entertainment for the thousands of runners.
The race itself was also great entertainment as 2 of Leevale AC's top athletes Sinead O'Connor and Lizzie Lee, ran toe toe from start to finish. Both broke the current course record held by another Leevale AC athlete Michelle Finn. Sinead had that extra bit of acceleration to get to the line first in a time of 20:34. In 3rd place was Hannah Steeds also of Leevale AC.

After the top ladies whizzed home we witnessed the waves and waves of women and children jogging and walking and having a ball as they crossed the line. Once the participants had finished their mini marathon, they were treated to more entertainment and music in Kennendy Park with well deserved medals and treats.

This was a hugely successful event that Cork Athletics, The Echo, Gardai and local authorities  managed to pull off. It is very much part of Cork City's highlight events during the year
