RACE REPORT

The Alanna Memorial Run was an emotional day, but also such a fantastic day for celebrating the wonderful life of 8 year old Alanna Russell, who will always be remembered as "Forever 8". Alanna passed away late last year and had captured the hearts of so many people. Words cannot describe the huge support that was received by Alanna's Mam Ruth, who was recently voted Mam of the Year and Dad Keith. It was staggering at the amount of people little Alanna touched. People from the running community, both local and nationally made it to the start line to take part in what Alanna loved to do most, take part in running events all over Ireland.

There was not a part of the country that Alanna did not touch over her short life. Not only did she touch the hearts of the runners world, but so many friends, family, and the local community of Navan were also smitten by Alanna's positivity and huge personality. Over 1,000 people came to Navan's 121 Fitness Club to join in the celebrations.

Before the race started Keith (Alanna's Dad) presented the Team Alanna Mini Bus to her local Meadows school, that was the result of fundraising by Alanna herself. The name "Team Alanna" came about to set up a fundraising fund to purchase a new bus for her school.

As the runners took the start line they were remembered by a host of Alanna's race t shirts draped from the start gantry. Alanna was present and looking down with great pride for her Mam, Dad, siblings Fate, Riordan, Harry and all the supporters who came to celebrate her life.

There was so many emotions flying about as they race started, Joy, sadness, excitement, pride, and general feeling of being part of something very special indeed.

As the runners crossed the line they were again greeted by the spirit of Alanna with more of her many race t shirts hanging from the finish line gantry. The pain of running of 6k had vanished as they approached the finish line with the sight of Alanna's tops. All participants gathered after the race to enjoy the feel good factor and sense of being part of great day. This is a day that will live long in the memories of everyone who attended.

A massive word of thanks must go to all the contributors who made this event happen. So much work and effort went behind the scenes. Thank you Navan AC, 121 Fitness, Mr. Price, Rehab Group and all the local community and business that came together. Results and times were not the main focus of attention today but more about the celebration.. We hope you enjoyed
