EVENT REPORT

 

A whopping 1439 participants registered for this years Ballintottis 4 Mile. What a fantastic evening of racing and entertainment we had in the East Cork village. Every year the numbers increase and so does the attention to detail of race management by the Ballintotis 4 Mile Committee. This is a massive part of the local community calendar. The entire 4 Mile route roads are swept, and grass verges cut. Along the route flags and banners are draped at every house and corner. 

 

The after race is also a big part of the event with some fine home made cakes and sambos on offer. It really is a great atmosphere for runners and spectators.

 

The race itself was fitting to the exceptionally organised race. Hundreds of spectators were treated to some extremely exciting race commentary by John Cashman. We were given a vivid and real sense that we have a great on our hands. Ryan Crecch, Sean Doyle, Michael Harty, Frank O'Brien and Paul Hartnett were all the usual top dogs in contention. Ryan Crecch did break free and we knew from about mile 3 that we were on for a course record. The commentary from John Cashman had all waiting in anticipation. When Ryan turned corner and off the breezy main Midleton Rd, we knew the record was well and truly on the cards. The fast home stretch brought Ryan home in a time of 19:05 beating his own course record by 6 seconds. In 2nd place was Sean Doyle of Cork City A.C in a time of 19:21 and former winner Michael Harty of East Cork was 3rd in a time of 19:30

 

The women's race was won by Bandon A.C's Fiona Everard in a time of 21:41, This was a great performance by Fiona who had some talented athletes following behind her. Emma Fitzpatrick of Leevale A.C was 2nd in a time of 23.20 and in 3rd was Sharon Rynne also of Leevale A.C. This was also the Cork Road Race 4 mile championship..
