Drogheda Christmas 5k 2025

Race Report

The Waterwipes Drogheda Christmas 5k was a sell out event this year with over 1,200 runners. The event has grown and grown over the years with a focus on the festive family fun run into Christmas. The event always attracts many runners donning the Christmas colours and Santa suits.

It has also managed to attract some fine athletes along the way from Dublin, Meath, Louth and further afield. This year the race moved to Drogheda & District A.C.s home training ground field for headquarters with race start and finish line.
The weather was cold with a sharp wind. The course is fast, however, with cold conditions and wind it was more difficult.

Tadgh Donnelly (Drogheda & District A.C.) won the race as he just arrived home from the US where he is on an athletics scholarship. He won in a time of 15.02 with lots of energy remaining. He was followed by a good contingent of athletes under 16 mins. 2nd place was Mindaugas Balciauskis. In 3rd place was Kieran Kelly of Raheny Shamrock A.C. The club team winners were Drogheda & District A.C.

The women's race was won by Aine Cotter from North East Runners in a time of 17:22. Kate Purcell of Raheny Shamrock A.C. was 2nd. Another North East Runner Kelly Breen was 3rd. The team winners were Skerries A.C.
