This years Master and Intermediate Leinster XC took place in Dunboyne Co. Meath and hosted by Dunboyne A.C..
Before the adults races we had some great kids relays that always provides some great excitement and fun. It was a great start to the year for kids to get out and run with their club mates over short distances.
This set us up nicely for the Master Women's race. This was always going to be an exciting race with some of Dublin's top clubs looking for honors. Sportworld RC were still on a high from the previous weeks Dublin title. However, many other clubs both from Dubllin and Leinster had other ideas. Raheny Shamrock A.C, Donore Harriers, Mullingar Harriers, Sli Cualann, and host club Dunboyne all looked strong.
All age categories were very strongly contested. The overall winner of the race with a staggering performance was Kate Purcell of Raheny Shamrock A.C. The team winners were Raheny Shamrock A.C. getting ahead of Dublin rivals Sportsworld RC. This was the reverse of last weeks Dublin Master team placings. In 3rd was Mullingar Harriers.
The Mens over 65 race was also 4k and part of the women's Master race. The winner of the men's over 65 race was Martin McDonald of Ballyroan Abbeleix & District
The 2nd race was the men's masters race with 219 signing up when including the over 65s. Again Dublin clubs looked strong coming into the event. Clubs from all over Leinster were extremely well represented, Celbridge A.C., Mullingar Harriers, Tullamore Harriers, Sli Cualann. Trim A.C., Navan A.C. and many more. We had a great race battling for age cats, club and county awards. The overall winner was Mick Clohisey of Raheny Shamrock A.C. who had a very comfortable win against a strong field of athletes. The master 35+ club team winners were Raheny Shamrock A.C. who had a great day of cleaning up many medals and victories. Kildare club Celbridge A.C. broke the Dublin dominance by finishing 2nd with Sportsworld RC 3rd.
The Inter Women's was the 3rd race of the day. Like the masters women we had some fine athletes taking to the line. The winner of the race was Edel Monaghan of Dublin City Harries with Sile O'Byrne of Sli Cualann in 2nd and 3rd was Silje Linstad of Dublin City Harriers. The club team winners county were in the inform Club Dublin City Harriers. County team placings were Dublin, Laois and Westmeath.
Then Mens Inter race was stacked with some great athletes. Raheny Shamrock brought most of their winning Dublin intermediate team from last November. They had a great battle with Tullamore Harriers. Ratoath AC were also very strong. It was gripping all the the way to the end. Tullamore ran in packs and Raheny needed to try spilt the group up if they were to gain the title for 2022. It was definitely nail biting stuff.
Gavin Eccles of Rahney Shamrock A.C. won the race overall and also helping his Club Raheny win by just 1 point ahead of Tullamore Harriers.
Meath were the county winners with a strong contingent from Ratoath A.C.. 6 were needed to score so packing in numbers was essenitial. Dublin were 2nd team.
