2026 Race Report

The Axa Raheny 5 was a real cracker this year. We had everything this year. Big crowds, great running, fast times, entertainment and lots of fun with the kids races before the main AXA Raheny 5. 

 

Just under 5,000 entered the 5 mile and a further 800 to 900 kids for the under age races. Clubs from all over Dublin and countrywide attended. This event is very much focused on the community too. It is part of the fabric of Raheny and surrounding areas. 

 

The AXA Raheny 5 is the first major race in the calendar and it certainly never disappoints. Pat Hooper who was one of the founding members of the race who passed away a few years back would be delighted looking down at such a fantastic event. His brother Dick Hooper, another local legend was on hand to provide commentary and Pat's Son David is now the current Race Director.

 

This year witnessed one of the most exciting finishes ever for the Raheny 5. Jonas Stafford of UCD A.C. and Colm Rooney of Clonliffe Harriers treated us to one heck of a sprint finish. They were side by side for most of the race. As they turned for the last 200m onto All Saints Rd, Jonas put the burners on and took the title in a time of 23:08. Colm was jutst 2 seconds behind. Hugh Armsrtong was 3rd. Feidhlim Kelly's Dublin Track Club who coaches Jonas and Hugh had a great day at the office as Michelle Finn of Leevale A.C and Faye Dervan of DCH were 1st and 2nd in the women's races. Michelle finished in a time of 26:35 and Faye in a time of 27:04. In 3rd place was Maria Magee of Rosses A.C.
