AXA Raheny 5mile Road Race

RACE REPORT

The AXA Raheny 5 Mile was another huge success today with 4,000 runners signing up for the event with a further 700 in the children's Races. The atmosphere was building all day. The damp weather did not put the runners off in the slightest. The mild weather conditions were great for running with no wind helping. This race really gives the 2017 season a real shot in the arm. The Raheny Shamrock Club have set the standards for the year.

This event attracts Club runners from every inch of the country with  huge respect for Pat and Dick Hopper of the host Club Raheny Shamrock A.C. This attendance by clubs made for a real quality race. The top 3 runners,  Mark Christie, Mick Clohisey and Ben Branagh were battling through every mile of the race right to the Finish. The battle for positions and prizes did not end there. Age category and team prizes were very hotly contested for.

Another reason to today's success was the attendance of non club runners, joggers and walkers. The event has captured the hearts and minds of many locals. Each and every participant is made feel very welcome to Raheny. This year also had the highest number of wheelchair participants taking part.

We will have race video attached to individual results over the coming 24hrs.
