B5 Bettystown 5 MILE
RACE REPORT
The B 5 Mile hosted by the East Meath Club Cilles AC had another superb event. Like most races this was their first live event for nearly 3 years. The excitement and buzz was back for this very popular 5 mile. The course is flat and fast and always kind to runners to clock a PB.
Over 450 runners signed up for the race, which is extremely good when a lot of events have suffered with numbers as we all get back to normality. The location is in the coastal village of Bettystown where many holiday makers were treated to some great action and hooray around the village.
There was endless talking points and positives from the race.
1. Flat course
2.A great race in both male and females races.
3. Great local support all over the course in Bettystown
4.Great music at the finish line creating an electric atmosphere with lots of spectators.
5. Goodie bag at the finish
6. Fab medal.
7. Great after cakes, sambos, teas and coffees.
8. Prize categories and team wards.
All in this race was ecxcellent. The race was won by Peter Samba of Dunboyne AC in a time of 24:37 with local athlete Aron Smith of Cilles AC in 2nd and Tadgh Donnelly of Dublin Track & Drogheda & District AC in 3rd place. The men's team were very tight with only 1 point separating Drogheda & District AC and host club Cilles AC.
The women's race was extremely close and tight with the top 4 athletes going toe for toe for most of the race. Well done to all 4. Sile O'Byrne of Sli Cualann Wicklow took the top spot in a time of 29:27. 2nd place was Aine Cotter of North East Runners, with Niamh Devlin of DSD AC in 3rd and 4th place was Karen Costello of Dunleer AC.
Dunleer AC were the women's team winners.
Well done to Cilles AC and all participants.
