Balbriggan Roadrunners Summerfest 5k

RACE REPORT

Another fantastic evening for running. Summer has definitely arrived over the last week. The Balbriggan Roadrunners "Summer Fest 5k" has certainly lived up to it's name. This was the first running of the event for the Balbriggan Club. Over 300 runners attended the first event, which was highly organised and extremely welcoming and enjoyable for the runners. Like all other parts of the country running has become part of the community in Balbriggan. Many locals took the streets and roads of Balbriggan. The hot temperatures made it a little more difficult but no one was complaining as we all enjoy the current spell of weather.

Some good times were recorded in results. Prizes were given for adults male, female and under 16s male and female. Team Prizes were also awarded with Balbriggan Roadrunnners winning the men's team and Start of the Sea AC winning the Ladies team prize.

The overall winner of the first ever Summer fest 5k hosted by Balbroggan Roadrunners was Mick Traynor of Raheny Shamrock AC and the Ladies winner was Star of the Sea's own Star Karen Lavelle...

Many spot prizes were also given. The Balbriggan Roadrunners club represents the current running boom in Ireland. Many runners now take to the roads for enjoyment, keeping fit and also to be involved in the social aspect, that has become part of life for people in communities all over the country.
