2026 Race Report
The Bohermeen Half Marathon was a burst of energy, sunshine and fast racing with lots of pbs. Just as the Spring weather arrived, the Bohermen Half Marathon burst the running season into life. This was certainly one of the best races of the year to date. Everything about this event was what you would want from a race, both as a participant and a spectator. Over 2,000 runners signed up to take a trip to the Meath venue. This is a very strong traditional club with deep roots in Irish athletics and road racing. Runners and clubs countrywide acknowledge this and know when they come to Bohermeen they are treated with warmth and a strong sense of community.
When the sun shines in Bohermeen we tend to have fast time and this year was off the charts. Sixty men ran under 75 minutes, and 33 women ran under 90 minutes. In the men's race Hugh Armstrong of Ballina A.C. and Dublin Track Club took the race into his own hands with a very convincing win. Right from the gun Hugh was determined to try break the course record of 63:54. Although, Hugh ran on his own and fighting against his own clock, he ran a superb race and closely missed out on the course record. He finished with a time of 64:23. Hugh has been one of Ireland's most consistent and talented road runners in the country for many years now. He now moves onto the marathon in Düsseldorf next month. Brian O'Kelly placed second with a time of 67:02. James Hyland of Raheny Shamrock was 3rd in a time of 67:41.
The men's provisional team winners were Road Runners from County Down. They won the Rennicks Cup with 6 to score and the open team with 4 to score.
The women's course record was torn to shreds by Alice Wright of England. Alice ran a blistering time of 70:50, and also setting a personal best (PB). Alice who lives in Arizona and is preparing for the London Marathon joined the Dublin Track Club under Feighlim Kelly over the last few weeks. This will no doubt be a huge confidence boost. Meabh Brannigan of Galway City Harriers was 2nd with a cracking time of 75:09. This also broke the previous course record. In 3rd place was Niamh Staunton of St. Abban's A.C in a time of 67:30. The women's Delany team cup was won by Road Runners with 4 to score. It was certainly a good day for Road Runners.
