Tightest of Finish for Caroline and Catherina, while Coghlan wins his own Battle.

The Castleknock 5k brought some top runners to the event this morning. Just  under 700 runners attended to help raise funds for St. Francis Hospice in Connolly Hospital,Blanchardstown. Runners, joggers and walkers of ages took part in misty conditions, however temperatures kept the runners warm... PA Eamonn Dolan of MSB provided plenty on entertainment and added to the real family friendly atmosphere before and after the event.

Many local children enjoyed the event along with their parents where music, bouncing castles, teas, coffees and other treats awaited all who finished. This was the 3rd year of this very successful 5k held on the grounds of Castleknock College.

Ladies race goes right to the wire between Catherina McKiernan & Caroline Crowley

This years winner was John Coghlan of MSB just beating Peter Somba by 2 seconds.  The home straight is where John kicked strong with the home crowd pushing him home. The ladies Finish line Threw up an even tighter finish between Caroline Crowley and Catherina Mckiernan. Both athletes battled it out on the home straight, where Catherina was just in front.  However, with a late burst Caroline just pipped Catherina with the tightest of margins .001 of a second on the line. It was difficult to separate with Finish live video backing up the recorded times.  Age category results were awarded to over 40, 50, 60 and 70. Junior age categories were also awarded. Full results are available now.
