Coca - Cola Boyne 10k Louth

RACE REPORT

The Boyne 10k, yet again provided another hugely successful event. Over 1,700 Runners took to the streets of Drogheda and the stunning surrounds of the Boyne Valley. The route is shared by both counties Meath and Louth. The Town of Drogheda came to a standstill for this race. A sea of Red covered West Street with a real party atmosphere. The Finish line Music and Commentary along with the Thousands of onlookers make this one of Ireland's best Finish Lines...

The sense of high anticipation, excitement and nerves could be felt before the 3pm Gun start...
Runners, joggers and walkers from all other the North East region and beyond were waiting for this event for many months. It was the only show in town today...

The event has captured the minds and souls of many local people. Coca - Cola International Services who are one the main sponsors helped pave the way for a fantastic event. With their support much funds were raised for the Local Alzheimer's Society....Well done to the Organisers Boyne AC and Drogheda & District AC for making this event happen. Huge work was undertaken over the last number of months and years to make the Boyne 10k become what it has today...

Most people ran this event to keep fit and to be involved with a fantastic fun event. Many were looking forward to the social aspect that follows after the race within local pubs, clubs and restaurants..

There was also the serious side to proceedings where runners came to win and focus on their running times and results... This year's winner was Dundalk Runner Gary O'Hanlon running with Clonliffe Harriers in a time of 32:09 Well done to Gary. The Female winner was the well known Deirdre Byrne of Sli Cualann club in Wicklow..

As with all local regions many inner club battles were to be sorted out....This as part of the Louth Athletics Championships. Clubs such as Ardee & District, Blackrock AC, Boyne AC, Drogheda & District, Dunleer AC, North East Runners and many more competed for honours....

In the end the top performing overall male teams were Drogheda & District AC, Raheny Shamrock AC and Dunleer AC. The Female teams were Drogheda & District, Balbriggan & District AC and Kettlebells Asbourne..
