Docklands 5k 2022
RACE REPORT
After 2 years of an absence the Dublin Docklands 5k in Dublin's city centre hosted by Crusaders AC took place on a fabulous summer evening. This is always a crowd pleaser. It ticks all the boxes from a fast flat course, big race feel, city centre running and loads of fun with an after party of food, music and entertainment.
This year Waystone were the main sponsors, which helped greatly to get this city race up and running. City races are now rare, so when they pop up they are very popular. Crusaders AC are a local club who host the event to raise funds for their club and facilities in Ringsend.
As this is a city race it attracts many corporate companies and Dublin athletics clubs giving it a great mix of competitive racing and team building and just some after work fun.Over 1,400 signed up for this year's event. With superb weather conditions the pre race atmosphere was top class around the docklands area as runners prepared for their race. The breeze had settled late afternoon, however, the air was warm and heavy but this all added to the atmosphere.
The race was won by Kevin Donagher of Rathfarnham WSAF AC in a time of 16:05. In 2nd place was 13 year old Noah Watt of Willowfield Harriers, Belfast. He fought Kevin all the way to the finish and is certainly a hot prospect for the future. Graham O'Dwyer of Raheny Shamrock AC was 3rd. Raheny also took top spot in the team men's award.
The female winner was Ciara Toner of City of Derry Spartans AC in a time of 17:22. Megan Roberts of Piranha Tri club was 2nd and in 3rd place was Aisling O'Connor of Rathfarnham WASF AC.
Sportsworld were the women's team winners. Both the men's and women's team winners, Raheny and Sportsworld had large numbers in attendance. Age cats were awarded on the night with Sportsworld & Raheny performing well again.
There was also a corporate team awards to those who declared a male, female, or mixed team. Unlike the club teams where results for teams were based on points of gross position, the corporate teams were based on net combined times and declared Male, Female and Mixed with 3 to score.
Citco, Three, Indeed, Waystone, Bank of America, Eigrid, Ey consulting, Microsoft, Fidelity Ireland, Fidelity International and many more large corporate companies took part.
Well done to Crusaders AC for another superb event.
