Drogheda 10K 2023

EVENT REPORT
The Drogheda 10k brought huge excitement and buzz to Drogheda town centre. The event sold out at 1,500 participants well in advance of race day. This is a big big event in the town of Drogheda each year. The town centre comes to a standstill and attracts hundreds of spectators adding to the atmosphere.
The start and finish line area is located in the same place making it spectator friendly. The narrow street and high rise building amplifies the noise and excitement created by participants, spectators, music and commentary.
The race started with a high intensity warm up on the steps of St. Peter's Church. At 3pm the race started with some really high quality runners. Both the mens and womens races were stacked with real talent. We had former Olypmian Michelle Finn of Leevale AC (Cork) and European XC medalist Mary Mulhare of Portaise A.C on the line with some other very fine female athletes who would win most road races in the country.
The men's race also featured some young and upcoming stars. One of these was Aaron O'Hanlon from local and host club Drogheda & District A.C. It was Aaraon's day as he won the race in front of a home crowd. The noise was deafening as he romped home to win the 2023 Drogheda 10k. In 2nd place was Eoin Richards from the very fine running stable of Dublin Track Club. In 3rd place was David Scanlon of Rathfarnham WSAF. The men's team winners were host club Drogheda & District AC.
The women's race was won by pre race favourite Michelle Finn of Leevale AC and coached by Feidhlim Kelly in Dublin Track Club. Michelle smashed the course record in a time of 33:49. In 2nd was no surprise with Mary Mulhare and in 3rd was Aine Cotter of North East Runners Dundalk. The women's team winners were North East Runners.
This was also part of the Louth 10k Road Championships. Full results can be viewed below.
This one certainly one of the most electric and exciting events of the year. We are all just bursting for next year to come around again.
