Dublin Masters Cross Country

RACE REPORT

The Dublin Masters XC attracted another huge field of runners for both the Women's and Men's races in St. Anne's Park. Just under 200 took part in the women's race and under 300 in the Men's race. This is an indication of how clubs in Dublin are increasing in size especially in the Masters ages. This event is highly competitive but yet many club runners of all standards take part. It is very much open to all Dublin club runners. A large part of the success of the Dublin Masters is the Social interaction among clubs. Many athletes are looking to get the New Year off to a good start.

The Women's race was 3k and consisted of 2 laps (2 x1,500). The short distance made this a very competitive and tight race throughout the field. The over all winner of the Women's race was Kate O'Neill of Metro St. Brigid's A.C. Kate had taken to the front as soon as the gun went off from the start and ran a very controlled race. Her 2nd lap was quicker than her first showing how she managed this race extremely well.

The Men's race was 6k with 4 laps (4x1,500). Again like the Women's race the leader took it out from the start. All other placings were a dog fight to the end. The overall winner was Colm Rooney of Clonliffe Harriers. This was Colm's first year entering into the Masters age category and what a start for him.

There were Masters team results with Sportsworld, Raheny and Donore Harriers taking the Women's over 35 team prizes. The top 3 over 50 teams for women were Raheny. Blackrock, and Sportsworld.

The Men's over 35 team winners were Raheny, Rathfarnham and Sportsworld. The over 50 top 3 teams were Raheny, Donore Harriers and Rathfarnham.
