Dublin U19, Junior & Senior XC Champs

RACE REPORT

The Dublin U19, Junior and Senior XC took place on the grounds of City West Hotel golf course. This was a great vennue that the Dublin County Board secured. The parking facilities were more than enough for the 850 plus athletes along with supporters and families. The uneven aged from u9 to u17 preceded the adults races.

Huge congratulations to Dublin County Board, clubs and volunteers for putting on a great event that was very well managed.

The results from the u9 to u17 will be on the Dublin athletics website. The adults races were stacked with quality athletes as you would be expect. The first adults race was the Girls u19 with the Junior Women. DSD A.C. dominated the u19 and the junor races taking gold in the team awards. Eimear Maher was the Jnr Winner of DSD A.C. and the winner of the u19 race was 2nd placed junior Eve Noctor of Lucan Harriers.

The Boys u19 and Junior Men served up a treat with an all out sprint to the finish line between Louie Woodger of MSB A.C. and Shane Spring of Raheny Shamrock A.C. This was Shane's 2nd big battle to the line this season providing plenty of excitement for onlookers. This time around Louie kicked stronger on the home straight and won by just a couple of metres. Again DSD took gold in both the u19 and Junior teams. Clonliffe Harriers were 2nd in both too.

Then to the Senior womens race. This really was a race to watch as there was so much talent that took to the start line. We had a great battle with Niamh Kearney of Raheny Shamorock A.C and DSD's Meghan Ryan. This was a 2 horse race until the final lap when Niamh started to pull away and finish strong to take the Senior Women's title. .
The team prize went to the pre race and hot favourites Dublin City Harriers. This was 2 womens team Senior titles in 2 days for Dublin City Harriers women. They won the Leinster title on the previous day with all different athletes. They will certainly be a team to watch in the upcoming Nationals.

The Men's race was won at ease by Clonliffe Harriers Efrem Gidey. He had this race to himself from start to finish. Clonliffe also won the team award comfortably. However, we had some battle for 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed teams. Raheny were 2nd team with DSD A.C, in 3rd.
