Dunboyne 54th Road Race 10k 2025

EVENT REPORT

The Dunboyne 10k was maybe one of the races of the year so far. This was also part of the National Road Championships. It was certainly worthy of a National 10k Championship. Both the mens and womens races were stacked with depth of talent. Over 1,000 signed up for this year's Championship and a further 800 plus in the open race. The event was sold out 2 weeks before the race date with over 1,800 runners.

All week we were waiting in anticipation for a mouth watering race. We were definitely not left disappointed. The men's race was up for grabs in a big way but who was going to grasp the initiative. From early on David McGlynn of Waterford A.C. took out the field and led for large parts. However, with 2k to go and with what looked like a commanding lead the pack started to reel David back. Jack O'Leary led the charge to catch David and finally did so in the final 1 km of the race. Jack finished incredibly strong to take the title in a time of 29:15. David McGlynn with a very gutsy run finished 2nd in a time of 29:25. In 3rd place was Dublin City Harriers Pierre Murchan who was 2nd last year. Pierre clocked 29:31.

We had a new Irish record master men's 40+ in today's race. Colm Rooney of Clonliffe Harriers was 4th overall and in a time of 29:41. He beat Michael Harty's time of 29:42 set in England in 2022.

To indicate the quality on show 8 runners ran sub 30 mins and 45 men ran sub 32mins. Check out the results and stats below. The Men's team winners were Donore Harriers, Kandr Track Club in 2nd and Raheny Shamrock A.C. in 3rd. These were also the National Champs team placings too. The Mens 35+ team winners were Letterkenny A.C. with Clane A.C 2nd and Rathfarnham WSAF in 3rd. The Men's 50+ team winners were Grange/Fermoy A.C. with Inishowen 2nd and Tuam A.C were 3rd.

The Women's race was as good as we have witnessed for many years. What a race we had. We were treated to some cracking racing and results. Niamh Allen of Leevale A.C. blew the chasing pack away to win in a time of 31:44. This was an Irish record time set on Irish soil. Catherina McKiernan and Sonia O'Sullivan ran faster in overseas races. Anne Marie McGlynn of Letterkenny A.C was 2nd in a time of 33:02. Anne Marie is our current National Marathon Champion and National XC Champ. In 3rd place was Ide Nic Dhomhnaill of West Limerick A.C. in a time of 33:15.

We had 17 women under 35 mins. The Women's senior team winners were Leevale A.C. with Mullingar 2nd and DCH in 3rd. The women's 35+ team winners were Dunboyne A.C. Ennis Track were 2nd and MSB A.C. were 3rd. The women's 50+ team winners were Brothers Pearse A.C. with Rathfarnham WASF 2nd and Mayo A.C in 3rd.
