Dunleer 4 Mile

RACE REPORT

The Dunleer 4 mile hosted by Dunleer AC attracted a large crowd to the Louth village. Despite World Cup final day and misty wet conditions, the event attracted nearly 400 runners. The damp and cool conditions were welcome by runners after the very warm conditions of late. The event itself is well established in the racing calendar and hugely supported by locals within the area along with clubs coming from many other areas and counties. Clubs from Meath, Louth, Dublin, Armagh, Monaghan, and Down were in attendance.

Team Carrie, a local running group trained and coached by David Carrie within the local Village represented over 150 of the field. This was an ideal race in preparation for Team Carrie's Marathon training programme. This was an excellent event with hundreds lining the streets of Dunleer to support the runners at the start and finish line areas.

Runners got to avail of the great street atmosphere and wall of noise as they completed their 4 mile loop coming back into the village. The last 400m for runners was made all the more welcome with this terrific support. The dynamic duo of Eugene Burns and David Carrie on the PA system added to the already fantastic atmosphere.

The race itself was won by Paul Fleming of Ratharnham WSAF .

The ladies race was won by Catherina McKiernan.

Age category prizes were awarded to for top 3 male and female along with over 40, 50, 60 and 70.
