Fitzers 5k Dundalk

RACE REPORT
This year's Fitzers 5K in Dundalk provided very good conditions for racing. In recent months wind and rain has hampered many events. Today with a slight east wind and cool dry weather led to good conditions for racing. The event course was ideally set up with the Start and Finish Line in close proximity to the Marshes Shopping Centre. There was a very friendly and warm feel to the race as runners prepared for the flat 5k route around the Town. The Route was also very well marshaled through the town.
This 5k has become very popular in the Dundalk area raising vital funds for the Maria Gorretti Children's Respite and the Local Rehab Resource Centre. These are 2 vital local Charities providing much needed services in the North East Region. Over 250 supported this great event along with local TD Peter Fitzpatrick taking time out during this busy time in politics to support the event.
The race was very well supported by local running clubs and as ever in these parts North East Runners athletes featured very well in the results. The overall winner was Dunleer AC's Darryl Greene closely followed by local man Brian McCluskey. Third man home was Shane Toner of Glenmore AC. The Ladies top 3 had 2 North East Runners placed. Laura Mathews Took top spot and Dearbhla Greene was 3rd. Well done to Laura and Dearbhla, who have a top coach in Brian McCluskey, and as mentioned already was 2nd overall. 2nd in the Ladies event was the legendary and well known Rosey Lamb..
Well done to all who took part. Results are available now
The event was timed by Rory of Chip it. You can check the event facebook page for pictures and reports over the coming hours.
