RACE REPORT
The Fota Cheetah 5k Run in Corks Fota WildLife Park was another cracking event. This is always a fun event hosted by Eagle AC and highly organised by the club.
High quality athletes, fun runners, joggers and walkers enjoy taking part every year. We had a kids race starting in the evening. The joy on kids faces at the sight of the wild animals and then to top their night off they get to race and receive a fab medal. Over 1,000 took to the Park for the evening's entertainment. While many races have been down in numbers recently as everyone adjusts to getting back to life after covid this race held its own.
It's certainly unique as the course is right in the middle of the park where some of the onlookers are the nosy Giraffes, Ostridges and many more exotic animals.
We had some speedy kids starting off at 7.15 with the adults 5k at 8pm.
The main race was fast and furious at the top end with Alan O'Shea and Sergiu Ciobanu having a great tussle. These are 2 fine athletes who keep performing year after year. Alan took the top spot in a time of 15:07. Sergiu was 2nd with Aidan Noone of Leevale AC in 3rd. Leevale had a great evening with many athletes performing well. In the women's race they to position 1 and 2. Carol Finn finished top of the pile with a time of 17:49. Club team mate Michelle Kenny was 2nd and in 3rd place was Kealey Tiedesdale of Clonmel AC.
Well done to all involved who made this a fantastic event. Big praise goes to the Fota Wildlife Park for the use of their facilities.
