Glenmore AC Kearney & McBride Cup 2019

RACE REPORT

Kicking off their 50th Anniversary celebrations, Glenmore AC hosted the first of their annual events with Kearney & McBride Cups 5k and Juvenile Cross Country races. Having moved from its October date the event decided to bring winter weather with it today and from the start of the juvenile races runners were put under pressure with the high winds and rain.

The weather conditions did not dampen the spirits of the organisers and all who came out to run with the cheers of encouragement heard all around the Cooley mountains.

After the successful juvenile races the Senior 5k road race kicked off at 1pm, with nearly 150 athletes taking on the the course on this tough day. The event was supported by local clubs North East Runners, Drogheda & District, Dunleer, Ardee, Togher Runners to mention a few as well as clubs from further a field.

The winner was Peter Arthur of Liffey Valley AC in 15:06, with Catherine O'Connor of East Down AC taking the ladies title in 18:04.

Travelling from Dublin was worth the trip for Liffey Valley AC who took the team win for both male and female.

This was another fantastic event hosted by Glenmore where all athletes were treated to a fantastic spread post race and 5k runners presented with a lovely 50th anniversary medal.
