This Annual race is also a very significant event in the local athletic calendar. Each year a host of locals and many members of the wider competitive running fraternity volunteer to slot into the many behind-the-scene and off-the-course stewarding roles.

It is a long time since our first race back in 1986. Back then we had approximately eighty entrants for our first ever outing. Over the years the event became ever more popular. Being staged during the Christmas Break has the added attraction of allowing entrants to psychologically and physically recover from some of the excesses of the Christmas Fayre. Last year many travelled long distances to be part of the record of almost thirteen hundred entries. As in previous years the course hosted walkers, joggers, casual once-a-year runners and serious competitors, some striving for personal bests and some being that bit more ambitious in the hope of achieving the prestigious reward of getting a prized placemen
