Inbhear Dee Streets of Wicklow 5k
RACE REPORT
Inbhear Dee AC hosted yet another very successful St Stephen's day 5km road race - what better way to burn off those Christmas Day indulgences .
After a stormy night, a very wet start to the morning during the gantry set-up, road making, cones and race tape all being put out to make a safe race for the 400 plus registered participants - when it came to 11am and race start; the rain stopped, some of the puddles subsided and the sun even shone on us all, how cool was that.
This race has been running for over 10 years now, I have had the pleasure of timing for the last 4 years and despite what the weather is like for race set-up - the sun always shines come race time.
Today's race had great representation from various clubs in Wicklow and there are a few that make this an annual event on their running calendar that travel from Dublin and surrounding areas so well done to them all.

The men's race was shaping up to be another battle for podium position and did not disappoint as Sean Doran from Clonliffe Harriers and Gareth Moran from Sportsworld fought shoulder to shoulder up the small incline to the finish with Sean just sneaking in a hairs width ahead of Gareth, Myles Gibbons took 3rd spot a few seconds later.
The ladies title was taken by Sarah Mulligan in a time of 17m33, 2nd place was Clodagh Kelly from Croghan AC, followed by local lady and host club's very own Claire Earls.
Also part of this race is the family race consisting of 2 adults and 2 children, this is proving to be a very successful event with the numbers growing every year, what started out with only 2 families has now grown to have over 15 registered families. Today's wining family was the Hogan's - Tom, Jay, Dena and Peirs - well done, also a huge well done on being 1 of Ireland's fittest family.
Well done to Inbhear Dee AC, participants and spectators for making this another highly successful event.
