RACE REPORT

Another great day of action in the new Abbottstown Cross Country facility for the Irish Life Health Cross Country. A huge turnout attended the Underage, Junior, U23 and Senior events. Today started off with Even ages from U12 to U18 and followed by Junior, U23 and Senior races. The event location made commuting very easy for Athletes and spectators. Athletes from every part of the Country contributed to top class running.

The Female Senior Race was won by Shona Heaslip of An Riocht AC (Kerry). Shona ran an extremely strong race contending against some very fine Athletes. Shona was followed by Kerry O' Flatherty and Ciara Mageean. Shona also took the U23 title. The Under 23 and Senior Races for both Men and Women were combined into one race.

This was similar to the U18 and Junior races.

The Men's Senior race, like the Women's was stacked with quality throughout the whole field. The testing course does not reflect the fantastic times recorded on results. The Men's winner was the in form Mark Christie of Mullingar Harriers. Mark led for long parts of the race and cruised home for a national title. The list of Athletes following behind were also of the highest quality. The Results certainly indicate the talent that was on show. Athletes were giving huge efforts, leaving all energy on the course. This was a qualifying event for European Cross Country selection.

This event proved to be a great success with large crowds of spectators enjoying the all events. Athletes enjoyed great support all over the course.
