RACE REPORT
A Great day in the Phoenix Park for the Irish Runner 5 Mile. This is an iconic race in the Irish Road Race Calendar. This year's 5 Mile was part of the Athletics Ireland Race Series. This was day 2 of the Series with the 10mile comming up in July. This was also part of the National Championships. The weather took a turn for the best as heavy rain fell in the hours leading up to the event. Just before the race started we seen some glimpses of sunshine. There was a great atmosphere as ever with the Irish Runner 5 Mile. Runners from all over the country supported this years event.
Like last year the Family Mile provided great entertainment and fun for young children and adults.
The 5 mile started at 10am with over 1,600 runners taking on the course. The wind increased before the race leaving it that bit harder for participants. They did, however have a nice breeze in their back for the home straight.
This years winner was the very popular Mick Clohisey of Raheny Shamrock A.C recording a time of 24:02. Mick, fresh after his London Marathon success was back in form for this shorter distance 5 mile.
The Female winner was Sally Forristal of St. Joseph's A.C. Sally is also a very high performing athlete who gave a fine performance today with a time 29:47.

Clubs who did not declare age cat teams, will be analysed to assess what age category team they will fall into. This is determined by the youngest athlete in the team. Ex Team made up of M35, M40, M55 will fall into Master 035+ team.
AGE CATEGORIES
Age categories were applied to the National 5k participants only. The main race had no age category prizes.
