Sell out events seem to be the theme of 2024 so with John Treacy Dungarvan 10 hosted by West Waterford AC no different. Over 3,500 entered in record time for this hugely popular event. It was sold out well before Christmas last year.
Clubs from all over Munster and Ireland made their way to Dungarvan. Just a look at the results stats gives an indication of the club participation. Many clubs brought an army of members. This was not just a race but a huge social event for clubs.
The race started at exactly 11:00 am and the JT Dungarvan 10 was off for 2024, the weather conditions were perfect if a little warm for the time of the year.
Oisin Sillane of Ennis Track took an early lead in the race and winning in a time of 51:57, John Kinsella Of Bilboa A.C. came 2nd with Ieuan Hopkins of Brothers Pearse 3rd.
Ciara Wilson of DPM A.C. lead the women home in 59:15 with Sally Forristal St Joeseph's A.C. taking 2nd poistion and Cristin Scollard of Dublin City Harriers A.C. coming in 3rd.
No matter where you were positioned in the race you were fighting for age category or team placings such was the level of competition. This all lead to runners pushing just that bit more and further enhancing their own performances.
In terms of teams, there were 2 team awards for both men and women. The team results were based on all club members who were not individual prize winners. Teams were based on combined placings of the top 3 athletes.
The 2nd team award was the John Treacy Cup. This was based on all club athletes regardless if they won individual prizes. It was also based on combined time for the top 3 athletes in both men's and womens races.
Provisional men's team winners were Grange Fermoy AC (113), Waterford A.C. 2nd (126) and 3rd was St Finbarrs A.C (127). The women's team winners were St Finbars A.C. (58) with Kilkenny City Harriers (87) 2nd and Clonmel A.C. (137) in 3rd.
