RACE REPORT

The Kilbeggan 10mile was one of the most eagerly awaited Road Races of the year. This was the first real test for many athletes of the year. This would let runners know how they were in terms of fitness and racing capabilty after a long time out for many.

The long wait was over as runners came to Kilbeggan to finally get some real race action. Many of the athletes were using the Kilbeggan 10 Mile as a stepping stone to longer distacne challenges later in the year such as hlaf marathons and full marathons.

The excitment and pre race nerves that is all part of the big race day feel was certainly felt around the start line just before wave 1 runners set off. Some fine runners were on show with the likes of Mick Clohisey of Raheny Shamrock and John Travers of Donore Harriers. The ladies was also stacked with some fine runners.

As wave 1 runners set off,  wave 2 runners then ascended onto the start line 30mins later. Again the excitement could be easily felt. It had been a long time since we witnessed such great atmosphere at events.

The winner of the first ever Kilbeggan 10 Mile Road Race was Ryan Creech of Leevale AC fantastic time of 48:20.

Taking the wome's title was Grace Lynch of Iveragh AC in another great winning time of  55:52.
