The Leinster XC Even, U20 & Novice was a blustery day out for athletes and supporters. The gods were looking down to keep away the rain that most feared.
This venue has been used for many Cross Country events for Leinster and Nationals in previous years. This was definitely the firmest we have seen underfoot for years. The wind however, made it difficult for athletes especially as the day went on. By the time we had the Novice Men we had very stormy conditions.
Like all cross country events everybody turns up no matter what the conditions. The under age races from under 12 to 16 featured Ratoath A.C and Mullingar Harriers as some of the big performers. For County teams Meath were one of the strongest performers along with Kildare and Louth. We had a great turnout by clubs all looking to compete and win places for Nationals.
The Novice Women's race was a battle between the Dublin Clubs of Sportsworld and Dublin City Harriers. These are 2 giants in women's cross country over the last few years. Aoife Carroll from Sportsworld had a comfortable win giving Sportsworld a great advantage to progress and win the team title. Dublin City Harriers were 2nd with Mullingar Harriers 3rd. The county team winners were Dublin, Westmeath and Meath.
The men's race was a tight affaor with Robert Hewison of Kildare A.C and Jamie Gahan of Kilkenny City Harriers having a great tussle along with Dylan Wright of Lucan Harriers. Hewison pulled away to take the Novice tittle. Mullingar Harriers were the club team winners with Raheny Shamrock A.C. and Sportsworld completing the top 3. The top 3 county teams were Dublin, Westmeath and Meath.
Well done to Meath Athletics, Dunboyne A.C. and Leinster Athletics for another great day of Cross Country competition.
