RACE REPORT

The 2018 Leinster Intermediate & Masters XC took place in Dunboyne Co, Meath. The Host Club Dunboyne A.C provided a great venue for this years event. The club have now hosted a number of XC events which have been hugely successful. The location was ideal for athletes and clubs to access from all parts of the Leinster province. A large number participated in today's event. The days action started with the juvenile relays. These were fast a furious races providing great excitement for spectators. Paddy Mangan of Dunshaughlin AC aided the excitement of the day with his commentary and PA announcements.

The Masters ladies kicked off the adults races at 13.20 . A large number participated with strong competition for medals. Some clubs were extremely well represented entering 2 teams to participate in both the Men's and Ladies Master events. This is a sign of how strong and popular XC has become over the last number of years. Clubs have galvanised themselves through competitions like today's event.

Athletes fought hard for their clubs and county with very wet and muddy conditions to contend with. The Master Ladies overall winner was Karen Costello of Dunleer AC with Adele Walsh of St. Sennan's 2nd and Nicola Welsh of Dunlerr AC 3rd. The age categories were also very close.

The Master ladies club team winners were Sportsworld RC with Louth taking the county team prize.

The Mens Master race was also very strongly contested. The overall winner of the Men's Master event was the in form John Dunne of Raheny Shamtock AC . The club team winners were also Raheny Shamrock AC with Dublin taking the county team prize.

As the Masters events were complete, the Inter ladies and Men were left to battle not only each other but the course itself. After the large number of master participants completing many laps the ground was well a truly cut up.

The intermediate ladies winner was Ashley Ryan of Civil Service Harriers. The Inter men's race was a tough 8k for athletes. Thomas Lupton was the winner in a very tight race. Tullamore Harriers won the club with Dublin winning the county team prize.

Well Done to all who took part today, along with host club Dunboyne AC, Leinster Athletics, and Leinster clubs / counties who made this event run seamless with great success
