EVENT REPORT 

 

The carnival atmosphere and family feel to the event was truly amazing. Lusk A.C. really have captured the minds and hearts of the local community in north Dublin. They are one of the fastest growing clubs and largest in the country at the moment. North Dublin is going through something very special at the moment with an explosion of running among the population. There has been a large  increase in club members joining existing clubs and new clubs setting up. New clubs like Coolock RC, Ballymun RC have contributed greatly to races recently. Skerries A.C and LSA are also clubs who are expanding in North Dublin. 

 

The 4 mile race itself had some talented athletes at the top end for both the Mens and Womens races. We had a great race among the top men. Clonliffe Harriers Sean Cronin won the race in a time of 19:33. He was chased down hard with 3 Raheny Shamrock A.C. athletes coming close behind. Shane Spring was 2nd and Mick Clohisey in 3rd. It was great to see Mick Clohisey make a return after a longer period out. 

 

The women's race was won by West Limerick A.Cs Ide Nic Dhomhnaill. Ide also smashed the course record in a time of 20:52. This will take some beating in the future. Lucy Barrett of Raheny Shamrock A.C. had  a great race to finish 2nd and another Raheny athlete Ailis Murtagh was 3td. It was a good day for the neighbouring club Raheny Shamrock as they also took the team award too. The team award was based on a mixed team with at least one member needing to be male or female. 

 

This was another great day for Lusk A.C. It was a superbly organised event and  are looking forward to next year already.
