RACE REPORT

Mallow 10Mile Road Race was back in action today. The extremely popular event hosted by Mallow AC oozed loads of class, excitement and a top rated runner experience. The club focused very much on the experience that their runners get from this race. This was very evident from all aspects of the event organisation. Many long months and planning paid off in spades.

The weather also contributed to a great day. This race attracted very high class athletes as well as those who simply wanted to have a great experience. The town of Mallow was buzzing with excitement before race start time. We had not witnessed this since 2019. The locals came out with great support along with athletes, friends and family along the start and finish areas.

Both races were stacked with noticeable and well known athletes in running circles. The men's race was dominated by Segiu Ciobianu of Clonliffe Harriers. Serg has been back to some of his best form over the last year and he certainly took today's race by storm. He won the race in a time of 50:55. Behind Serg provided onlookers and spectators with some real exciting racing as places from 2nd to 4th were very much up for grabs. Only 10 seconds separated the places. John Kinsella of Bilboa AC was 2nd (53:08) and in 3rd was Derek Griffin (53:13).

The women's race was also stacked with some fine athletes. Just like the men's race one athlete stood out. Michelle Finn of Leevale AC fresh from her Bohermeen Half Marathon win last week showed that long distance running suits her fine. She clocked a winning time of 55:09. Her club mate Niamh Moore was 2nd (58:54) and in 3rd place was Emma Murphy (1:01:55).

Well done to Mallow AC for a fabulous event yet again and also to their sponsors Dairygold who make this happen.
