Patrick Bell and Nicky Philips 5K Bohermeen

RACE REPORT

Bohermeen AC hosted their Patrick Bell & Nicky Phillips 5k. This is always a popular event with club runners and locals. A major draw to the event is the now famous BBQ that takes place after the race. From early on the BBQs were prepared as many locals arrived at the Bohermeen Community centre to get ready for the fun that would be experienced later in the evening.

This year attracted some fine athletes just like previous years. The strong tradition of the club always brings some big guns out to race. While this was a competitive race, there was a great sense of relaxation and good fun too. The club is a very welcoming club whose main aim is to provide runners with a great day out. This is what you would call a club runners race. The sense of togetherness, warmth and genuine friendships built up over many years among runners was very evident at this race.

The race was won by Ian Guidan of Clonliffe Harriers in a time of 14:17. Peter Somba of Dunboyne AC was 2nd with Conor Duffy of Glaslough Harriers in 3rd. We had 5 athletes under 15 mins showing the high quality on show. The overall men's team winners were North East Runners with 4 to score. There was an additional Paddy Murtagh cup with 6 men to score.  The winners were also North East Runners.

The women's race was won by Danielle Donegan from Tullamore in time of 16:50. In 2nd place was Kelly Breen of North East Runners with Caitriona O'Brien of Bohermeen in 3rd place. The women's Mallon cup team award was made up of  4 to score. This  was awarded to Dunleer AC.

Well done to Stephen Ball and the members of Bohermeen AC who made this a very enjoyabe evening.
