Rita & Robbie 5K 2023

RACE REPORT

The Rita & Robbie 5k hosted by Navan A.C. was another great festive event. The Christmas cheer and festive good will was felt on the start and finish lines. Over 500 signed up for  this year's event with clubs from from all over the county of Meath and further a field from Dublin, Louth, Kildare, and Westmeath all came to Navan.

We had some fine young talented athletes lined up on the start line and all ready to take glory. It was a battle just to get a good position on the start line. This had a real race feel as the gun was about to get them started.
However, it was the pre-race favourite Kieran Kelly of Raheny Shamrock A.C.  and the man with the greater experience who controlled the race.  Kieran left the younger guns behind and won in a time of 15:07. Kieran ran 14:43 just 2 weeks ago in the Drogheda 5k so he had extra gas if needed.

Fintan Kerins of Clonliffe Harriers was 2nd in a time of 15:24. In 3rd place was Drogheda & District junior athlete Christopher Keenan. Trim A.C. were the winners of the men's team award with 3 to score.

The women's race was won by Susan McManus in a time of 18:20. 2nd place was Saoirse McGrath providing us with a close race. There was only 2 seconds between 2nd and 3rd placed women . It was a junior athlete Nadine McIntyre that finished 3rd. The women's team was awarded to Dunboyne A.C. with a large points gap.

Well done to Navan A.C. for hosting the largest Rita & Robbie 5k event to date. The Next Navan A.C. event will be in May with their Simon Cumbers 6k to look forward to.
