RACE REPORT

Today Rosemount GAA hosted  it's very 1st 10 km and half marathon road race on a "grand soft day" just outside Moate, Co Westmeath. Just under 600 brave souls took to the country roads of this very pretty part of the country even if the rain didn't stop :-) 
The morning got under way with an energetic warm-up which got the 'aul muscles warmed up and the blood circulating, no rain was going to stop this gang...

 1st race off was the Half Marathon which started just at the GAA grounds at 10 am, 30 minutes later was the 10 km which started in the village at the school on a real country road, with almost 300 in each race.

 As the rain continued to fall gently plans were being implemented  for the arrival of the finishers.

Sandwiches were being carefully made, tables being placed for all the beautiful tasty treats, kettles and burka's on the boil for the soup, tea and coffee which seemed to be in endless supply so nobody was left out.

Outside - ice baths were filled, and availed of, the hard earned medals were wheeled out ready to be presented to each and every runner who crossed the finish line, not only were the runners greeted with a fab medal, they also received a warm welcome from TJ - who was calling every single name out as they entered the grounds of the GAA, they were greeted with a lovely smile from the members handing out the medals, followed by fruit and drinks before heading inside for the tasty treats.

Today's winners were ----- in the 10km - we had Andrew Nevin from Mullingar Harriers leading the field home in a time of 34m58 and Julie Kirwan from Slaney Olympic taking the ladies title in 39m05
 
And - the Half Marathon winners were ---- for the men; we had Peter Mooney 1st past the post and looking very comfy in a time of 1h 17m 40, with Adrianna Mulligan from Longford AC for the ladies in a time of 1h 23m 30
      
Well done to everyone how took part today, well done to TJ for getting all the names and a huge congratulations to Rosemount GAA for hosting a very successful event today amid the inclement weather
