RACE REPORT

Another fantastic event in Derry for the SSE Airtricity Walled City Marathon. Today's event could not have asked for more... it had it all, great weather, friendly welcome by the people of Derry, an extremely well organised event and above all, the runners had a great experience. Participants return to this marathon year after year and it's easy to see why. Runners took to the start line at the Everglades Hotel and finished in the city centre's Giuldhall Square, where runners were greeted with a wall of noise from supporters. The route between start and finish wasn't bad either. Participants were taken along the meandering River Foyle and ran across the famous Peace bridge at mile 20, again to be greeted with huge support by onlookers.

To cap a great day off, Dan Tanui smashed the course record in a time of 2hrs 19mins 44 secs. This broke the previous record held by Freddy Stuk of Raheny Shamrock AC. Dan was over 4 mins faster than his own PB on this course. This was an impressive time on a challenging course.

The Ladies winner was Heather noon with Louise Smith of Nth Belfast Harriers and Denise Ward of Foyle Valley 3rd.
