RACE REPORT

The SEE Airtricity Walled City Of Derry Marathon saw 1600 runners take off at 8.30 this morning. This is one of the largest Marathons in Ireland and N.Ireland. It has become hugley popular to runners both sides of the border. The Heart warming and welcoming atmosphere attracts many runners country wide to Derry. Again Hot summer conditions made this more challenging than normal. There was an out of the blue marriage proposal for one luck lady... Joseph Kennedy who had just crossed the Finish Line made the proposal to the love of his life...

The SSE Airtricity Walled City of Derry Marathon is an extremely well organised event with City Of Derry Spartans providing much the organisation to the event. Thousands of spectators lined the streets of Derry which added to the occasion. A Children's race entertained the Finish Line crowd before the main Runners came to cross. The Runners needed all the support they could get in the final few miles of the City. The route took the Runners across the iconic Peace Bridge. The Finish Line was located in the Heart of the City near Guild Hall.

A sea of blue carpet and thousands of supporters made for an electric and exciting Finish Line area. Sunshine, spectators and music created am atmosphere that would be hard to beat anywhere in the world..

This years winner was Eric Keoch with a very close battle with Dan Tanui closely followed behind . The Ladies winner was Pauline Curley of Tullamore Harriers. Pauline who is fan of the Derry people and this Marathon broke her own course record from last year. She recorded a time 2hrs 47mins 23 sec. This was 6 seconds faster than her previous record.
