The Monaghan 10 & 5 Mile
Monaghan Town Runners Hosted another fabulous 10 miler and 5 miler. Everything was perfect today from great weather conditions for running, high levels of organization, fun, high octane finish line action and some great racing.
The race HQ was all centrally located in Monaghans Diamond just outside the iconic Courthouse.
Over 620 signed up with 530 odd finishers. This race was a big hit with locals and very much part of the town's yearly events. Locals and from beyond look forward to this event from months out. They hit the roads from early in the year to train for the big day.
The event hosted 2 distances to attract all types of runners and abilities. The 5 Miler was won by Colly Harkins of Omagh Harriers in a time 27:57. Mark McDonald of Clonliffe harriers was 2nd and in 3rd was Colm McGrath of Keep er lit.
The women's race was won by Fiona Clinton of DSD AC in a time of 28:57. Fiona had a comfortable win as her furthest competitor was Joanne Campbell of Finn Valley AC with Josephine Killeen in 3rd place.
The 10 miler was won by Drogheda & Districts AC, Brian Martin in a time of 54:10. This was a superb run by Brian on a tricky course and out on his own. In 2nd place was Mindaugas Balciauskis of Monaghan Town Runners the host club. In 3rd place was Stevie Duncan of Omagh Harriers.
Age cat prizes were awarded along with teams for the 10 miler. Omagh Harriers won the men's team with 4 to score. Clones AC were the Womens winners. Well done Clones AC and Coach Paul O'Neill for rounding up the troops.
