The Sonia O'Sullivan Cobh 10

RACE REPORT

The Sonia O' Sullivan 10 mile race was a real treat for runners in Sonia's home town of Cobh, Co. Cork. This was a stunning location for the event. This was the first year that Ballymore Cobh AC hosted the event and what an event too. This was a sell out many weeks before race day. Many of the runners attended to honor and celebrate Sonia's many famous victories and achievements through her running career. Some big named athletes such as Lizzie Lee and Mick Clohisey also attended to honor Sonia. over 1,000 took to the start line to join Sonia. The weather conditions were also fantastic as the summer like sunshine came to see Sonia.

Sonia was on hand to get to race started at 9.30am. Sonia's own race number 1051 represented her fastest time over 10 mile in 51mins. A truly great time from a truly great Irish Athlete.

The race was itself was won by former Olympian and Irish European Cross Country runner Mick Clohisey of Raheny Sahmrock AC. Mick ran a superb time of 49:23 of testing course with some challenging hills.

The female winner was also a former Olympian and Irish Cross Country athlete Lizzie Lee of Leevale AC. Lizzie who recently recorded a Half Marathon pb (73:23) carried this form to today's race.
