RACE REPORT

The 12th Tom Brennan Memorial 5k was another huge success for the Liffey Valley AC club. The race was held in the Phoenix Park and consisted of 2 laps, starting and finishing on Furze Rd. Over 740 signed up for the New Year's Day event. This is a well established event on the Dublin calendar. This was also the first race of the Lord Mayor's Five Alive Challenge, with over 200 participants taking part. The Five Alive Challenge has become an extremely popular group to join after it was initiated by Dublin's Lord Mayor to get people active for the new year. The next event in the Lord Mayor's Series will be the Axa Raheny 5 Mile on the 27th Jan.
As ever there was a competitive edge to the race with many Athletic Clubs supporting the event. Clubs from Dublin, Meath, Westmeath, Kildare, Louth, and Wicklow were all in attendance. It was the Dublin clubs who performed well in the results from age categories to team performances.
This winner was Efrem Gidey of Clonliffe Harriers in 14:59 and the female winner was Emma O'Brien form Sli Cualann.
