Tom Brennan Memorial 5K 2024

RACE REPORT
Liffey Valley A.C. hosted one of their biggest New Years Day Tom Brennan memorial 5k races in the Phoenix Park. The event sold out 2 days before the race with just under 800 athletes all looking to run in the year with a fast 5k. The race has a very strong tradition and is organised extremely well by Liffey Valley A.C. The high level of athlete pedigree and very well organised race makes this a great New Years Day event.
The race also attracts joggers and leisure runners too all helping to add to a great occasion. It's a must do race to tick off for many of the runners who attend. We had an earlier than normal race start time that did not seem to deter runners as we could see with the large numbers who registered.
The race itself was stacked with the usual top athletes for both the mens and womens races. This was a fast all guns blazing affair. For spectators it was ideal as we had a 2 lap course giving plenty of entertainment. We could gauge from the halfway point who was in the mix for top honours. Efrem Gidey of Clonliffe Harriers was streets ahead at this stage and on track for an incredible time. He was in pursuit by Addel Laadjel of Donore Harriers and Jack Moran of Mullingar Harriers and many more top athletes. Shane Healy of MSB was also on for a world Record M55 5K time. Efrem stormed home in a time of 13:43 smashing Hiko Tonosa's course record of 14:20. Minutes after the race it was flagged that the course was approx 100m short. Despite this Efrem still would have smashed the course record very comfortably. Shane Healy posted a time of 14:43 and again would have ran about 15:00 mins flat smashing the world record for his age category. The men's winning team was Clonliffe Harriers with 3 to score.
The women's race was won by Ciara Wilson of DMP A.C. in a time of 16:10. In 2nd place was Orla Duffy of DCH with Eleanor Foot of Bray Runners A.C. in 3rd place.
The women's team winners were DCH just edging out Raheny Shamrock A.C. Some other great performances and times were posted by Annette Kealy of Raheny Shamrock A.C. running 18:01 in the F55 age cat. You can check out all the results below on our Results tab along with stats of the day.
The next big Dublin Athletics Road Race is the 40th Axa Raheny 5 on Jan 28th. Register now https://raheny5.ie/
Thanks again to Liffey Valley A.C. the gardai and the OPW for making this race happen. We will no doubt be back again in 2025.
