RACE REPORT
The Waterside Half Marathon was another huge success with over 1,700 runners signing up for this year's event. The race started in an updated and modern looking Ebrington Square. This event is hosted by the City of Derry & Strabane Council. They organise some fantastic events and this is certainly one of those. A huge number of participants run this event every year and they were delighted to back after a 2 year absence. It is a highlight event in the City of Derry & Strabane Council Calendar. There was also a competitive edge to the event too.
This was part of the Ulster Half Marathon Championships. The overall winner was Gideon Kimosop of 1 Zero1 AC. In 2nd was Declan Creed from City of Derry Spartans. Declan was also the Ulster Champion as Gideon did not qualify for the Ulster Championship. Scott Rankin of Foyle Valley was 3rd overall.
In the women's race Catherine Whoriskey of City of Derry Spartans was the winner with club mate Ciara Toner closely behind in 2nd. In 3rd place was Leann Gibson and Victoria Park & Connswater AC was 3rd.
Like previous years there was an option to run and take part as part of a relay team. Teams were made up of 3 runners consisting of Mixed, Male and female teams.
We were delighted to see this event back up and running. Well done to City Of Derry & Strabane Council.
