Wicklow Hospice Half 10k & 5k Trail

RACE REPORT

The Wicklow Hospice put another fantastic event together today in the Sceinc Avondale Forest Park in Wicklow. This was the 8th year of the event. Support for the event has grown year on year. There was a chill in the spring air, but there was no shortage of warmth glowing from event organisers and participants. This really was a very enjoyable event in the heart of Wicklow. The combination of the Wicklow Hospice crew and the huge effort put in by local club Parnell AC contributed to the success of this event. The mark of it's success is the return of participants on a yearly basis who bring more participants along with them.

There was a distance to suit all runners and capabilities from 5k, 10k and half marathon. The runners started just at the entrance to the stunning grounds of Avondale Forest estate. The 5k was one complete loop of the Forest trail with the 10k and Half Marathon taking up the forest trail along with road.

The 5k was won by Sarah Diamond of Wicklow Tri.

The 10k was won by Ronan Wogan of Bohermeen AC with Derek Crammond 2nd and Declan Robinson of Raheny Shamrock AC 3rd. The ladies 10k was won by Laura McDonald of Tallaght AC, with local lady Anne Marie Kenny of Parnell AC 2nd and Rhona McHugh of Donore Harriers finishing 3rd.

Female Half Marathon winner Catherine O'Connor of Parnell AC.

The Half Marathon winner was Kieran Little of Crusaders AC. Keiran was followed by Mark Poole and Scott Mcann in 2nd and 3rd. The ladies winner was Catherine O'Connor
