Another record breaking day for the 34th AXA Raheny 5 Mile. This year was bigger and better than them all. The Host Club Raheny Shamrock pulled off an amazing event. Thousands descended upon the North Dublin village for this hugely popular event. From early morning there was a real big atmosphere feel to the event. The day kicked off with the extremely fun and exciting kids races. This was the ideal way to motivate both spectators and the adult participants for the main event that was to follow.

The Raheny village came to life for the day with hundreds of spectators taking up viewing points all over the course to support the runners. This is a large event that still has a huge community feel to it. This is one of the many reasons why this event has become so popular. The event attracted both high level Athletes and Fun runners. Everybody was looking forward to the race that seems to kick start the season off..

The race itself was packed with quality Athletes from all over the country. Them men's race was close with John Travers and Mick Clohisey running each other hard throughout the race. Travers from the Donore Harriers club pulled away in last mile and took this year's title with Mick Clohisey of Raheny Shamrock AC in 2nd place. Raheny Shamrock AC won the men's team prize in both the Senior event and the masters over 40. Well done to Raheny and we wish them the very best of luck in next weeks European Club Cross Country Championships.

The Ladies race was won by the Anne Marie McGlynn of Letterkenny AC with a very impressive performance. The women's senior team winners were Dundrum South Dublin AC with Sli Culann AC winning the women's master over 40 team prize.
